There are a number of options for every travel-lover to choose from. Since it can be quite difficult to choose one way of shortlisting a destination can be visiting a place at the time of its famous festival. Many countries have some famous festivals at a certain time of the year when people from different countries visit them. Rubina Ratnakar lists the top five international festivals of the world.
On number one we have the Carnival of Rio De Janeiro, in Brazil. This is known as “The greatest shows on earth”. This festival takes place in February or March, 5 days before the Catholic season of Lent. Every year the festival takes place with a certain theme. Many other countries try to hold a Carnival like the one in Rio but fail to do so.
The next fun festival on our list is the La Tomatina festival of Spain. At this festival, people play with tomatoes by hitting each other. There are certain rules you need to follow at this festival. Don’t throw any hard objects on anyone, always squash the tomato before throwing it on anyone, and stay away from the tomato trucks. Enjoy the festival and don’t hurt anyone seriously.
Next on our list is the Dia De Los Muertos of Mexico. This is one of the most celebrated festivals in Mexico. The main ideology behind the festival is to get together with your family and pray for the ancestors. Children go from door-to-door to ask for caveritas.
Montreux Jazz Festival of Switzerland is one of the oldest music festivals in the world. This festival takes place in late June or early July. Many musicians perform at the concert and to your delight, some concerts are free of cost.
Mardi Gras of Louisiana is the US version of the Carnival in Rio de Janeiro. This festival begins one day before Ash Wednesday and lasts for months. You can enjoy musical events, the Parades, and the famous Balls at the festival.
